About
My name is Michael Schibeci, I am a counsellor from Melbourne Australia who currently conducts online telehealth counselling sessions.
As a counsellor my main focus is on building a collaborative relationship, serving as someone who can walk alongside of you through their own lived experience of having autism and ADHD. I believe that authenticity is key to finding healing and self-acceptance, and that this can only be achieved by cultivating a genuine working partnership where we are both on equal footing. I utilize a trauma-informed approach that honors and affirms your own neurodiverse experience, and is focused on empowering you, not treating or fixing symptoms.
My therapeutic style is inspired by my years of experience with mindfulness and mind-body based approaches, being process based, and focused on what’s arising in the present moment. In my view, reconnecting to our authentic self means learning to listen to the intelligence of the body, which our culture often derides as secondary to the intellect, and that healing is about reconnecting to the parts of ourselves that we have disowned in order to survive.
In session I take inspiration from therapeutic modalities such as focusing, gestalt, parts work and person centered psychotherapy.
